Are you having to use more than one cycle to dry your clothes. The average load of light weight cotton should take about 20 to 30 minutes, and heavy weight loads (jean, towels) should take about 40 to 50 minutes. If it takes more than this it MAY NOT BE YOUR DRYER, BUT YOUR DRYER VENT. A dirty or clogged dryer vent is one of the leading causes of dryer problems and costly repairs. Yearly dryer vent cleaning maintenance will help reduce these problems as well as save you money on quicker drying times and reduce the risk of dryer and house fires.
Dryers have to be able to circulate air. Lint screens retain approximately 75% of the lint in each load. The other 25% blows onto the motor, heating coils and up the dryer vent so the air can't circulate causing the dryer to run hotter and longer. This can cause the heating coil and or the motor to burn out. "The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that in 1998, clothes dryers were associated with 15,600 fires, which resulted in 20 deaths and 370 injures. Fires can occur when lint build up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air, cause excessive hat build up and result in a fire".
